  • Who am I?

    Hi there and welcome!

My name is Blair Buckler and I am a practicing Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in the state of North Carolina. I enjoy working with clients, ages 18+ on a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, sexual identity, relationships, and more. I have extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and other trauma informed therapies. I have also worked in a variety of settings between Georgia and North Carolina including hospitals, in-home therapy, and outpatient settings.

I am beyond excited that you are here!

Over the span of my career, I have worked with many clients on self and life improvement. Nothing brings me more joy in life than helping others make positive changes in their own lives.

The reason I chose to work in the helping profession is because I have also struggled with life transitions, overcoming obstacles, and my own mental health. I continue to struggle with anxiety, ADHD, and other mental health issues on a regular basis. I learned about and discovered DBT when I was in my graduate school internship. During that time, I had to lead groups and teach others about the various skills. I immediately began teaching myself the skills and applying them to my own life. Within a few months of working on the skills for myself, I started to notice changes in my life. I felt better and more in control of my emotions and daily life. This was the first time I can remember feeling fully in control and less anxious. I had found something that truly worked. Some skills came easier than others. Other skills took me a long time to work on but eventually they clicked.

They can work for you, too! Get ready to feel better about YOU!

Feel free to email me at blair@helpwithdbt.com with any questions, comments or concerns.

    What is DBT?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence based therapeutic intervention that utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy and tries to change negative thinking patterns while pushing for positive behavioral changes. It focuses on problem solving and acceptance-based strategies to bring together opposite concepts such as change and acceptance. It was created by psychologist, Dr. Marsha Linehan.

How is it different from CBT?

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is one of the most commonly practiced forms of therapy today. It’s focus is on helping people learn how their thoughts can actually change their feelings and behaviors. It is usually time-limited and goal-focused as practiced by most psychotherapists.

Where CBT works on changing thought patterns, DBT works to change how we manage our emotional responses and behaviors to situations.

Both CBT and DBT can incorporate exploring an individual’s past or history, to help an individual better understand how it may have impacted their current situation. However, discussion of one’s past is not a focus in either form of therapy, nor is it a differentiation between the two forms.

    What is telemental health?

Online therapy, also known as telemental health, is a growing field. A therapist or counselor provides psychological counseling and support over the internet through email, video conferencing, online chat, or a phone call. Telemental health may be useful to individuals who cannot leave their home, who work unconventional hours, as well as those overseas or who live in rural or remote areas.

How do I know what's right for me?

Depending on your needs or situation, any of the above modalities may or may not be right for you and your family. Please feel free to contact me via email at blair@helpwithdbt.com for a free consultation.
